Going for a holiday?
Everybody loves to go for a holiday. Well, no wonder, nothing is better than relaxing your body and mind. But leaving your house empty for a while can be disastrous if you take it for granted. Empty house is a "sitting duck" to criminals and other "force majeur" condition.
Is this mean we should not go for a holiday? Absolutely not!
1. Let your neighbours know your mobile phone number. This is important!
2. Tell your neighbours you are about to go for a holiday. Inform them the schedule. They will - more less - like security guard. Anything suspicious happening in your house, they will contact you immediately.
3. Ask someone for a help, perhaps the security personel or - better yet - your well-known neighbours, to pick-up your newspaper, letters, bills, milk, or anything you subscribing. If all of these scatter in front of your house, it is like you put a neon sign "this house is empty"!
4. Garden lamps or gate lamps or any lamps outside your house could be an indication as well. If nothing are turned on during the night for couple of days, people will know nobody is at home. Also, if you turn the lamps on, they will continue to turn on during the night. Same indication. So, buy a simple timer or light-sensitive device so you can control when these lamps are turned on or turned off.
5. Got diamonds? Luxury jewelry? Well, bring them to the bank and put it inside their vault for several dollars. It is like you are paying insurance. Better to loose several dollars to rent a vault rathen than loosing all of those precious things, right?
